You don't need a separate form, just add a BAS Module to your project (click
Project/AddModule from VB's menu bar) and copy/paste this code into its code
window...
Public Declare Function sndPlaySound Lib "winmm.dll" _
Alias "sndPlaySoundA" _
(ByVal lpszSoundName As String, _
ByVal uFlags As Long) As Long
Public Const SND_SYNC = &H0
Public Const SND_ASYNC = &H1
Public Const SND_NODEFAULT = &H2
Now, put this statement in your menu items Click event...
sndPlaySound "c:\windows\media\chimes.wav", SND_ASYNC
The SND_ASYNC constant plays the sound while the program is executing and
SND_SYNC make the program wait for the sound to finish. SND_NODEFAULT stops
the error sound when the file is not valid. You would start a WAV file
playing by executing this code substituting the WAV filename and its path in
place of the chimes.wav I show as an example. If you find it necessary to
stop the sound from playing before it would normally end, you can use this
statement to do that...
sndPlaySound "", SND_NODEFAULT
