I'm trying ti install SP6 on a system which has only been updated to
SP5.  The installation gives me the following message 5 times -

[filename] was unable to register itself in the system registry

([filename] =
(1) msmask32.ocx
(2) msdatlst.ocx
(3) mscomct2.ocx
(4) tabctl32.ocx
(5) mshflxgd.ocx)

And finally the message appears -

Visual Studio 6.0 Service Pack 6 Setup was not completed successfully.

The system is running W2KPro.

Any ideas what the problem might be?

I don't have an answer to the problem, but the general
consenses on these groups is thAT sp6 creates more
problems then it fixes.

Get this file .... http://vbnet.mvps.org/files/tools/sharedll.zip ....
extract the exe and run it. Select A when prompted in the DOS window, then
try reinstalling. This is from MS - it won't hurt anything.  I bet you're
using Windows 95/98 or ME.

Thanks, I'll try that.  Not running 95/98 or ME.  Check my original
post - the system's on W2KPro.

Randy,

It didn't help!  Presumably because I'm on W2K?

It's a registry permissions problem.

In my case it was caused by a bug on Crystal Reports versio
8.0.0.371.
You can find a fix 'here' (http://tinyurl.com/aufxn)
