I have noticed two directories in my Documents\Visual Studio Projects
folder. Does anyone know what these are for and what created them? I have
Visual Studio with Visual C++ 6 and Visual Basic. I realize that VB created
them, but what task and why? Are they necessary; can I delete them?

They folders are VBInstaller1 and VBInstaller2
===================================
The contents of VBInstaller1:
VBInstaller1.cache
~VS9CF5.tmp
~VBInstaller1.wip
VBInstaller1.wip
Output (empty directory)

===================================
The contents of VBInstaller1:
VBInstaller2.cache
VBInstaller2.suo
VBInstaller2.wip
Output (empty directory)

Looks to me as if you started Visual Studio Installer and created 2 new
projects.  By default, it creates folder names like those for VSI projects.

Thanks Mike.

I did have an issue with this machine installing Virtual PC. I had Microsoft
on the phone for a total of about 8 hours spread over two support calls.
They had me try a lot of various tricks including loading some software.
They sent me a file Basic2.exe. So far all that I can see that this does is
put a GetDirectory.exe file in a C:\Program Files\Basic directory. All this
does report the directory it is installed in.

Additionally, I reinstalled the redistributable Windows installer. Also, as
a last resort, I installed the Windows Installer SDK. I may have run it a
time or two, I don't remember. For installations I use the Install Shield
for Visual C++ 6, Package & Deployment Wizard (for VB stuff, its bad but I
inherited these) or InnoSetup.

I am curious, when should I use Visual Studio Installer? Is it primarily to
support the Windows Installer technology that started in Win2k and WinXP? I
understand that they have also made patches/upgrades so that the Windows
Installer can be used in Win98 & ME.

Additionally, why do the directories have the VB prefix which leads me to
believe that it is primarily for Visual Basic programs?

By the way, the Virtual PC never would install on this Win2k machine. I
ended up installing it on another Win2k machine. It is the damndest thing,
but that is for another newsgroup.

One correction from my previous post. They did NOT send me Basic2.exe, it
was Basic2.msi.
