Hi...writing a paper to convince a company to upgrade a large application
from VB6 to VB.NET.  Can someone pinpoint some good compelling reasons or
point me in the direction to find a white paper, reference material etc?

thanks

Yup, you need to ask in a group with 'dotnet' in it's name as the
microsoft.public.vb.* hierarchy is generally held to be for VB Classic
(i.e. VB6 and below) only :)

You're asking this in a newsgroup populated almost exclusively
by people who, after more than seven years, have NOT FOUND
"good compelling reasons" for themselves to abandon VB6.

In specific cases, for specific programs and organizations,
there certainly do exist compelling reasons.  Just getting
support from Microsoft for example.  But not in general.

You also might want to ask yourself if you're prepared to lie
in order to make your case.  Then check the relative traffic
levels in the VB newsgroups WITH and WIHTOUT "dotnet" in the
group names.  That may give you an idea how well the strategy
is working out for Microsoft after all these years.

If there are good compelling 'business' reasons for your organization to
change to the dotNet platform, the reasons already exist.

LOL... as others mentioned, you'll find more volunteers in a group that
contains "dotNet" in its name.

Here's some 'white paper' to get you going <g>
