I encounter this error trying to compile an application using VB6.
I am running Visual Basic 6.0 (SP6)
My version of Windows is XP (SP2)
The version of cvtres.exe is 5.0.1736.1

My app has previously compiled with no problem; however last time I had
to make a small change, I encountered this error but circumvented it by
re-ordering some of the code!!!
This time, I cannot find a way to circumvent it.

Can anyone suggest how to fix this problem?

If you have .Net installed, I imagine that there's a slim chance that your
Path environment variable is finding the version that comes with .Net. Their
versions are 7.0.9466.0 and 7.10.3052.4 here.

You might try poking through a few of these.

Results 1 - 10 of about 259 for cvtres.exe. (0.24 seconds)

Hmm.
That's very curious. The reason for this error message was that VB6
could not find ANY copy of cvtres.exe -- I don't know how it could have
vanished. However, I copied the version I mentioned earlier from
...\VC98\Bin to ...\VB98, alongside Link.exe, and the error went away.
Unfortunately, it was replaced by a second error:
fatal error CVT1107: MyApp.obj is corrupt. However, the compiler and
linker appeared to have run with no errors. Could this be a bug in
either of THEM?

P.S. to my previous note.
The linker is version 6.0.8447.0
and the C2 compiler is version 12.0.8783.0

I've found out the cause of my problem: I had specified a network drive
as the destination for my *.exe file. When I specified a local
destination for the compiled file everything ran perfectly, even with
no copy of cvtres.exe in my VB98 directory.
We are running Microsoft networking software, but clearly there is some
kind of problem here.

You can find the "correct" version here..... even though the article's for
VS97, the version is the same... 5.00.1736.1

FIX: Visual Studio 97 SP3 Installs Incorrect Cvtres.exe
